Policy on Non-Discrimination & Gender Identity

Life Moves Manual Therapies does not and shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion (creed), sex, transgender status, gender identity, gender expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status, in any of its activities or operations. These activities include, but are not limited to, hiring and firing of staff, vendor & professional relationships, and provision of services. We are committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment for all members of our staff, clients, subcontractors, and vendors.

We recognize that individuals can identify with a range of different gender identities, and that gender identity may or may not be associated with the sex assigned at birth and/or gender presentation. We provide a supportive environment to recognize an individual’s gender identity, and for staff and clients to share their gender identity or trans status if they wish.

COMMITMENT TO HONORING GENDER IDENTITY

When transgender, nonbinary, or gender nonconforming clients present for health care, they will be addressed and referred to on the basis of their self-identified gender, using their pronouns and name in use, regardless of the client’s appearance, surgical history, legal name, or sex assigned at birth. If the client’s family members suggest that the client is of a gender different from that with which the client self-identifies, the client’s view should be honored.

LMMT team members will not use language or tone that a reasonable person would consider to demean, question, or invalidate a client’s actual or perceived gender identity or expression. Team members will not ask questions or make statements about a transgender person’s genitalia, breasts, other physical characteristics, or surgical status except for professional reasons that can be clearly articulated. Information about a client’s transgender status or any transition-related services that the client is seeking and/or has obtained is sensitive medical information and LMMT staff members will treat it as such.
